About Corynapping

If you've been following me for a while, you know I've been working on my first ever visual novel, called Corynapping after the main character, Cory, who may or may not get kidnapped.

The original idea was to make a quick visual novel out of some art I'd already happened to sketch just for fun, mostly so I could teach myself how to use ren'py (for the uninitiated, Ren'py is a free and easy to use visual novel engine). The game would feature one night of fun with the titular character who is part of a fantasy race I informally call "spider-girls" because of their multiple arms and eyes.

Despite my best efforts to keep it simple, it has expanded slightly! It will now feature multiple endings (including a secret ending!) influenced by some basic choices made during the course of your night with Cory.

If you can't tell, I'm really excited about it! However, the unfortunate thing about making a game all by yourself is that it kind of takes forever! I actually started this project clear back in 2023 and I've experienced multiple setbacks.

Also since then, I've become a much better artist. For example, at the time I was first drawing Cory (and drawing the scenes that would become the foundation for the game), I couldn't figure out how to draw all the eyes I wanted her to have. Her face just looked weird every time I tried. Well, since then I figured it out! So, I want to release the game with the characters looking how I always envisioned them.

Unfortunately, that means redrawing all the scenes I had already done!

New art, left, compared to old art, right. She now has all 6 eyes that I always wanted her to have. Also, there was no reason for her to look quite so wide-eyed and alert in this scene. I mean, she did look cute before, but it wasn't what the scene called for, lol.

You can see the current status of where I'm at in working on this game at the top of this page. I'll try to update it frequently!

I want to be up front about this: I do take frequent breaks from working on the game, because it's such a big project that I don't want to get burnt out on, so I rotate it out with other projects (like fan art) here and there. But I'm going to keep chugging along and make sure it gets finished!

Yes, even after the steam / itchio censorship debacle, I still intend to finish it!

More detailed updates, like sketches and even previews of finished art are available to subscribers (patreon / subscribestar / fanbox). There is even a short demo featuring the old artwork available for download! Current subscribers will also get the first opportunity to play it when it is finished. I might not release it for free for a while after it's actually done :).

If you'd like to support my game dev activities, but aren't interested in the benefits or hassle of a monthly subscription, you can always drop a couple of dollars in my Ko-Fi and leave me a note saying you want to encourage me to work on Corynapping!

Thanks for all your support! I hope you guys will really like it when it's finished!
